Post 3 – Technical Challenges

Within this post I will be reflecting upon technical challenges that I have encountered during this project and how these challenges were overcome/navigated.

What?

Throughout this project I have met technical challenges due to my current level of skills in Adobe software. I often find that I have ideas but come to a halt when I’m trying to bring these ideas to life using software. An example of this was when creating a logo, I had hand drawn a rough sketch of a concept and wanted to create this using Adobe Illustrator whilst also combining it with another idea found on Pinterest. I made an attempt at creating it using the ellipse tool and the pencil tool without success, I then searched for online tutorials on how to use the pencil tool and was unable to find one that was using it in the way that I was attempting, this led me to believe I was using the incorrect tool.

The outcome of my attempt.

So what?

Though this was a poor attempt at creating this logo concept, it did help me decide that this was not the right design idea to move forward with for TimeBank and prompted me to continue to work on new ideas.

Whilst working on this logo in class, I asked a classmate who is more experienced in Adobe how they use the pencil tool. They gave me a quick tutorial which was a huge help and led me to being able to create the logo that I am moving forward with.

The logo created using the pencil tool in Adobe Illustrator.

I know from past experiences that I am capable of carrying out independent learning and becoming knowledgeable in skills required. However, this process has led me to understand that my preferred method of learning is in person due to it being interactive and more concise.

Now what?

If I had allowed myself more time, I would have found an online source that would have explained what I needed. This would have saved my classmates time of having to explain the pencil tool.

Moving forward in this project there are multiple tasks that I am concerned about, these include:

  • The typeface I would like to use not available within Figma or WordPress for the creation of the prototypes.
  • In the past I have had issues with making website designs responsive, will this project be different?
  • TimeBank’s current log in/sign up page take you to a different website, will I be able to create a better system for users that are new to TimeBank?
  • I am currently creating prototypes using Figma but during this module have been taught how to create pages on WordPress Elementor that allow for features such as parallax, how will I convert these?
